 | | Arriving at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei | | | A free Skytrain that runs regularly until midnight connects the airport’s two terminals. With a design based on the main terminal of Washington Dulles International Airport and completed in 2000, Terminal 2 is shiny and modern. Facilities and services include car rental, restaurants, massage, duty-free shops, executive lounges and free wireless Internet.
Terminal 1 is more basic and most likely will undergo renovation. This facility serves mostly Asian airlines, while Terminal 2 handles the flights of both Asian and North American airlines, including Northwest and United.
TPE is located 40 kilometers or 25 miles south of downtown Taipei. It is easily reached by express buses and taxis. The bus service is quite cheap and runs frequently, with stops at both terminals. It is actually a great system, with buses picking up travelers in front of many of the big hotels and major tourist areas. Most of the large hotels also offer their own private shuttle services to and from the airport, whether by limousine or minibus. | | | |  | | |
